I think we should restrict this topic to speaking about thumbtips as a gimmick/prop. Kind of like how we discuss loops here. We shouldn't tip off any efects using the thumbtip.
As for me, I have two vernet thumbtips. I am a little lucky in that the color of it is a close match to my skin color. Many magcians will tell you that the color of the thumbtip doesn't matter because with the proper misdirection and methods a thumbtip will never be seen by the audience even if it was painted neon green.
Also, I've heard on other forums about a thumbtip from France that is very realistic looking. |

Bushinmarcos,
I do recognize that because of you and a few more members we actually have some activity on these forums. For that I am truly grateful. I hope to setup a "back room" here on the forums so that we can discuss magic in greater detail but until then exposure of any kind is not permitted in this forum. True. Every registered member in this community is a magician to one degree or another. However, not every visitor to this site is a magician. And this is just one of the reasons why exposure is not permitted. I ask that you, and everyone, to be a little more patient.
As the owner of mymagiczone, I have access to various logs and reports. Some of these reports let me know what phrases people typed into search engines to find this site; Here is just a sample of some of the things people have typed into search engines and found mymagiczone.com:
warp one trick revealed mask magician trick expose secret "digital dissolve" handling "digital dissolve" mindbender forum password ellusionist directions to greed/ Daniel Garcia WOW By Masuda explanation how to do silver dream ellusionist dental floss as loops in magic (I know. it's not asking for exposure but I got a kick out of it) ....The list goes on and on.
There are lots of things to to talk about thumbtips. But let's do so without mentioning any specific effect names or instructions on accomplishing effects using thumbtips.

I've heard about a DVD set called Darwin's Encylcopedia of Thumb Tip Magic. It is a 3 DVD set so I would imagine that it can be a good resource for thumb tip magic.

the thumbtip can be a very useful gimick and true some people do see it...truth is i stoped using it years ago and began using a finger tip instead...i just think it makes puting the thing on seem a little more natural...of course, if your getting caught on a regular basis then it may be time to rethink your handling.

I had one a long time ago, but I lost it. Of course, I was really young when I got it, so the thumb was twice as long as any of my other figers. Therefore it was a bit useless.

well, if you're going to use one then do yourself a favor and don't order one of the internet...go to the magic shop and buy one. the guys there will have a box full and you can find one that fits and matches your skintone. just because you can get away with a lime green one doesn't mean that should be the norm.

I've heard a story about one man who fooled a ton of other magicians using a thumptip that was very much out of the ordinary: it was apparently as big as a lightbulb and painted bright red, yet never spotted until the guy purposefully exposed it. However, even though good handling will allow the TT to be completely invisible, as magick said, it's best to still try to find one that will blend with your actual thumb, especially if you're just starting out with a thumbtip
