| Hey guys. For a gift last month I received an invisible deck from penguinmagic.com. I instantly fell in love with the trick, and it became one of my favorite tricks to do in front of strangers.
However, recently it's becoming harder and harder to keep un-wanted cards attached, and I've found myself sometimes accidentally revealing one or two extra face down cards. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the invisible deck uses a substance called "roughing fluid" right? If that's the case, then I'd assume that the problem with my deck is the liquid is starting to rub off, and the deck is getting much slipperier.
So here are my questions... Is there a way I can fix the deck without buying more roughing fluid/brand new invisible deck? If not, what exactly IS roughing fluid and how can I get some? Or should I just plan on buying a brand new deck?
I'd really hate to have to buy a brand new invisible deck considering I've only had the one I have for about 3 weeks, but it seems everyday my invisible deck is getting harder and harder to perform without exposing the gimmick.

I have used mine for years and never had a problem. Make sure you always have clean hands to keep the cards clean and keep them in a cool dry place. If you have them in your jeans all day- they might be getting damp from body heat, etc. The cards take a nice light touch- you don't have to push real hard to keep them together- If they are as bad as you say- you might want to get a new deck- keeping this one as a practice deck. If you love the effect- and it is a great one- it is worth it. You can redo the roughing fluid- but it's much- much better if you have never done it to just get a new deck. Good luck! |

| All things wear and tear, so to speak. The more you practice, the more supplies you need. When you buy things, I suggest buying 2 of them, just in case. I come from an old Slavic family, and My Grandmother always said, "If you don't have left-overs, you didn't make enough". In the case of the roughing fluid dilemma for your deck, you can create the invisible deck by using just that fluid on a regular one, just be careful and pay attention to detail. Plan ahead, if you intend on the long haul, stock up a bit. A bit of recycling advice, when the cards you use for street, stage, or whatever magic get warped, or whatever........... Get a little fanning powder and practice the stage type manipulations, Card warp, or whatever card destroying tricks you have. Minimize the retirement, maximize the possibilities for practice. Even though a bike deck costs a couple of bucks, don't retire it from use because it doesn't fan nicely, use it for something else, like making gaffs, practice sets of cards (the harder it is to do something with old/worn cards, the easier it is with new ones), I hope this helps your current dilemma and gives you a chance to let the card die a practical/graceful death as seems fit............ |
