Control by Wayne Houchin. I like this trick. BTW, what kind of magic is this? I know it is not mentalism.

I don't own Control by Wayne Houchin but I think it falls in the mentalism category because it is a mind over matter type of effect. You know, like using your mind to stop your pulse.
What does everyone else think? |

| I know the effect is an old one. I know the one way of doing it - not sure about Waynes way of doing it... but I said I'd love to see a Doc watch it more as a joke. I've performed for a room full of Doctors on two different shows. Both where an extremely rude and hard audience. They wanted to figure out every trick I did. The one trick that did shut em up was a singed card into a sealed aspirin bottle... go figure~ |

i know what you mean...a room full on doctors is a difficult audience. needle thru the arm got their attention though.
whenever i do shows like that, to get the reactions i want i always have to get a lot raunchier than normal and really push the bounds of bad taste.

Hey, I'm new here... I own control... and I'd think it's not that kind of a Mentalism and I think it's a mix of mental and close up... you play with them thinking you'd actually stop your pulse and act it out... so yeah, coorect me if I'm wrong ayt? A doctor caught me with the Easy Money trick at the pharmacy... I said to them I didnt have money but papers bla bla, change them to money blabla... well figure out what happened... I welcome myself to the forums/// ^_^ ^_~ |

Pulse stopping and controlling the body has been around for a long time, Check out Ripley's Believe It or Not from the 70's/80's. Heck, I took a course in bio-feedback to do just such things and can do some unusual stuff, no frills or trickery, really. Presentationally it's above board, but the concept has been around since the ninteenth century fascination with the Indian Fakirs. Or is it "Fakers?", ha ha ha. And that includes Indian Rope Trick and their "Levitations". Take it with a grain of salt and pick your audience well. Luke Jermay does a good presentation of this style, granted at only one point of the body, but the need to do more is mute. That was more for the TV audience than someone sitting there. You only have to convince once, anymore smacks of being less than magic, at least to me........ Proving a point too much, makes the illusion suffer, in my opinion...........

@ Janos I don't really understand what your saying, but Control can be done anytime anywhere... and you can do it multiple times, but not immediatley after that, like tell them "get me a drink", then tell them, "*couch* okay, I'll try to do it again, it's gonna be risky bla bla bla.." just play with their minds so you can do it again... and btw, pulse stopping is an old trick, but Control is relatively new... developed from ground up with no setups no gimmicks, just you. and clothes... ^_^ just saying my opinion |

| Oh I know it's a good trick, but not for the average audience, in my opinion. I guess it depends on your repertoir and persona. It's just not one for me. If you've got a mentalism thing going, it's great. No knock to Wayne, I do some of his other stuff. |
